Sto-Rox Youth Partnership marks 6 years of service

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY – Its been over six years since the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (MRCDC) convened the first meeting of the Sto-Rox Youth Partnership and the collaborative organization is still going strong.

That first meeting – held at the Father Ryan Arts Center on Jan. 27, 2015 – attracted more than 40 representatives from about 20 organizations, institutions and businesses. Throughout 2014, in collaboration with Coro Pittsburgh and its affiliates, the MRCDC reached out to stakeholders in the community in an attempt to join efforts. They met with multiple potential partners who expressed interest in future collaborative opportunities revolving around the community’s youth population.

During these meetings, they heard routinely from parents, educators and other stakeholders (including children themselves) that the youth needed more enriching activities and learning experiences. Yet, there remained no coordinated effort between organizations to strategically leverage resources and amenities in the Sto-Rox community.
By pulling resources and collaborating, these partners aimed to fill the needs of the community, reach more youth, and together impact the quality of lives for all who live and work in Stowe Township and McKees Rocks. That mission continues to this day.
