Grand Opening: Salvadoran restaurant brings new tastes to Stowe

RIBBON CUTTING – Congratulations to Blanca “Helen” Martinez on the grand opening of her Salvadoran restaurant Pupusas Y Antojitos Helen on Aug. 9, 2024.

The restaurant’s arrival in town was a collaboration between McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (MRCDC) and Pittsburgh Hispanic Community Development (PHCD). The two groups worked together to find Martinez the perfect space and continue collaboration on future projects.

That new restaurant is next door to the Parkway Theatre & Film Lounge whose owners, Aaron and Jackie Stubna, bought the former pizza shop with hopes of bringing a “Mexican restaurant” or something complementary to the revival process they are creating on their block of Broadway Avenue.

In addition, to the theatre film lounge and Salvadoran restaurant, the Stubnas have been instrumental in bringing nano brewery Abjuration Brew Co, Safari Eats and the Community Reel Arts Center to the block. They even purchased a building in the area that is being converted into their home.

Our neighborhood partner Neighborhood Community Development Fund provided financial support for Martinez as she gets the restaurant up and running.
