A trending theme of arts & entertainment seems to define the future for Sto-Rox…

It began in the Chartiers Avenue business district in 2008 with the $4M Father Ryan Arts Center, a state-of-the-art facility that offers classes, recording studios, performances, and exhibitions. The Parkway Theater brings film to Sto-Rox as a trendy neighborhood movie theater and screening lounge with craft beers brewed on site by Abjuration Brewery.

The area is also home to the famous Hollowood Music and Sound, Pittsburgh’s go-to business for instruments, lessons and sound equipment. Family-owned, Hollowood has been a resident business of McKees Rocks for over 45 years. If you’ve seen a performance in Pittsburgh, it’s likely that you’ve experienced Hollowood’s pro-sound and equipment rentals.

The most anticipated project, however, is still underway. The historic Roxian Theatre is currently under development to reopen as a rock music venue in the Chartiers Avenue business district. At 1,400 capacity, it will fill the void in Pittsburgh for a mid-size contemporary concert space, making the region more attractive to national acts and essentially changing the music scene altogether.

As a catalyst for neighborhood stability and economic vitality, the Sto-Rox Arts and Entertainment District will elevate the McKees Rocks experience for local residents and regional audiences by stimulating active participation, engagement and investment of resources.
