#GiveBigPittsburgh (McKees Rocks) Covid-19 Response

Please help McKees Rocks Community Development Corp. (MRCDC) continue its economic development projects by becoming a donor on #GivingTuesdayNow or any day throughout the year.

COVID-19 RESPONSE – MRCDC has been focusing on the existing small businesses in the Sto-Rox region while still continuing to move forward with projects already in the works including the first phase of streetscape improvements along the lower Chartiers Avenue corridor.

In addition to focusing on communicating funding opportunities to local business owners, the group has launched several initiatives. The “Quarantine Contest” provided gift certificates MRCDC purchased from area restaurants, bars and restaurants in operation during the pandemic to residents of the community.

Essential healthcare workers at the local Sto-Rox Family Health Center ( a federal coronavirus testing site) and community members doing good deeds during this time of uncertainty will be receiving local small business gift certificates as well.

Each of MRCDC’s quarantine-related projects (and more to come) are designed to put money into the hands of our small business owners and in turn our community members.

Please help us to continue these types of projects and more by becoming a donor.

BACKGROUND – In addition to the $9+ million Roxian Theatre revitalization project completed in May 2019, MRCDC has been instrumental in bringing many small businesses and groups to the community including:

– Parkway Theater & Film Lounge
– Black Forge Coffee House
– Broken Plates
– PMA Tattoo
– Abjuration Brew Co.
– Phantom Robotix
– Roxian Theatre
– Sto-Rox Youth Advisory Board
– thrive – Sto-Rox Community Resource Center
– RubyRide
– and more…

In July of 2000, a group of community stakeholders convened with the purpose of developing a new vision for McKees Rocks, one that would build upon the great assets our borough possesses. The McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (CDC) was incorporated in 2003 to implement the Borough’s Strategic Revitalization Plan, which calls for dramatic changes to lower McKees Rocks, some of which are now completed, and many of which are underway. The McKees Rocks CDC is structured as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and in 2008 expanded to include Stowe Township in our mission and leadership.

MISSION – Part of our mission is to provide resources for anyone looking to make McKees Rocks or Stowe a home for their family, business, or investments. Our board members are united by a love of our community and a firm belief that there is tremendous potential for its future.

CAMPAIGNThe campaign will kick off at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5 and conclude at midnight on May 31.

Nationally, this initiative is inspired by Giving Tuesday (givingtuesday.org) and its #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity on May 5, designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits.
