TEAM WELCOME: Emery Malachowski joins MRCDC for 2021

Emery Malachowski is originally from Lowell, Mass., and is a recent transplant to the Pittsburgh area. As an AmeriCorps VISTA, they will join the MRCDC team during 2021 and assist with a wide variety of activities to build engagement with the McKees Rocks community and with fellow non-profits, as well as organizing the MRCDC Youth Advisory Board and strengthening the MRCDC’s capacity to develop real estate that will meet community standards and benefit McKees Rocks.

They graduated from Juniata College in 2020 with a BA in the Literature of Power Dynamics, and are fascinated by the intersections of urban development, race and queer cultural theory, and community intervention.

Before their involvement with the MRCDC, Emery interned with the Northside Chronicle, the International Women’s Media Foundation, and the Savannah-Chatham Authority for the Homeless, as well as serving as the Editor-in-Chief of their college’s newspaper and literary journal. They are a voracious reader and writer, and love to consume art of all kinds.

Emery chose MRCDC because it allows them to “experience all facets of the nonprofit world” and because they “already care deeply about McKees Rocks” and “hope to help the community reinvigorate their town into the best version of itself it can be.”
