Drive-up food distribution planned for Sto-Rox communities

Special food distribution for McKees Rocks and Stowe residents

Grow Sto-Rox partners are working with 412 Food Rescue and the Allegheny County Housing Authority to bring a drive-up food distribution to the area on Tuesday, June 16.  

What: Drive-up Food Distribution

When: Tuesday, June 16

Hours: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Enter at West Carson and River Road by the railroad crossing and follow “Food Distribution” signs to an access road located alongside the former Crivelli Chevrolet. 

The rain or shine distribution is a first-come, first-serve event. To help with social distancing guidelines, attendees are asked to remain in their cars as volunteers load a food box into your trunk. For safety purposes, attendees are asked to arrive no sooner than 11 a.m. The event will end promptly at 1 p.m.

Walk-Up Distribution – June 19

An additional food distribution event for those without cars is planned for Friday, June 19 at the Focus On Renewal Food Pantry, 302 Bell Ave., McKees Rocks. The June 19 event includes a fresh fruit and vegetable family box giveaway from noon to 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. Regular food pantry hours there are from 1 to 4 p.m. Limited free lunches will also be distributed.

What is ‘Grow Sto-Rox’?

Grow Sto-Rox is focused on improving the quality of life for Sto-Rox residents through programs that are strengths-based, trauma-informed and create equitable economic impact. The partnership is comprised of the following local organizations: Communities in Schools – Pittsburgh – Allegheny County, Focus On Renewal, McKees Rocks Community Development Corp., Sto-Rox School District and the Zellous Hope Project.

Groups from outside the community invested in the Grow Sto-Rox partnership include the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, New Sun Rising and The Forbes Funds. Grow Sto-Rox is made possible through The Forbes Funds c3 Catalytic Community Cohort initiative.
