McKees Rocks and the MRCDC received an early present this holiday season with the announcement from the Roxian Live group that tickets are now on sale for one of first shows to grace the stage of the newly renovated Roxian Theatre.
Although work on MRCDC’s flagship revitalization project continues through this winter, plans to launch as a live music venue are in play for spring 2019. The first show booked for The Roxian is a May 15 performance by Snarky Puppy.
What’s a Snarky Puppy?
“As the category names for all three of the band’s Grammy® awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016 and 2017), Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band, and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to ‘take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they’re not.’,” according to the group’s website.
