Glass recycle program available for McKees Rocks residents, small businesses

McKees Rocks Councilwoman Sarah Harvey announced a pilot program Sept. 3 that will provide borough residents and small business owners a place to recycle glass.

Because of import reductions placed on plastic recyclables by China, many area waste service providers have reduced the number of pick-up dates for plastics and no longer accept glass. Waste Management which provides service to McKees Rocks has changed its recycling program and no longer accepts glass on its bi-weekly recyclable collection.

In response to complaints from residents as to the change, Harvey came to an agreement with CAP Glass to try a pilot program in the borough. The program is free.

Glass can be dropped off during business hours only to the CAP Glass/Superior Mulch location at 21 Furnace St. Ext., McKees Rocks

Drop-off hours for glass recycling are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
