Please join us in welcoming Gabrielle “Gaby” Elliott to the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (MRCDC).
A proposed greenspace project that could connect downtown McKees Rocks to the Sheraden Park through a wetland area using a repurposed pedestrian bridge will be a focus of her work with MRCDC. Additionally, Gaby will be working with Jeb Feldman, MRCDC director of economic development, over the next year to build the nonprofit’s capacity.
Gaby is a West Chester, Pa. native who has a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Pittsburgh. She says she hopes to continue her education allowing her to work with green/environmental nonprofits.
Gaby’s year with MRCDC will be her second session as an AmeriCorp VISTA. She’s previously worked with the Maryland State Park system’s Maryland Conservation Corps where she spent time providing environmental education, managing invasive species, leading public hikes, tending to animals in an aviary and coordinating with other nonprofits.
She chose to join MRCDC to allow her to have “more experience with the administrative side of things.” She says this will allow her to “have a better understanding of environmental work at every level,” not just on the ground performing “fieldwork.”
