COVID-19 has been a nightmare for all. Especially for event staff and operators of small independent live performance venues like the Roxian Theatre and Black Forge Coffee House here in McKees Rocks.
On Sept. 1, 2020, staffers from both venues joined #WeMakeEvents, a coalition of trade bodies, businesses, unions, and live events workers, in lighting up their venues, homes, and cities red in more than 1,500 locations across North America.
The event was designed to call attention to the fact that event staffers nationwide have been without work and the venue owners without significant financial assistance since March. Government regulations force them to remain closed. Live shows may not return until late 2021.
