For the past few months, a small group of local business owners has been meeting to draw up a game plan for a way to bring business into the region from outside of Sto-Rox.
The solution settled upon is a series of alternating quarterly art and wine crawls to be held along Broadway Avenue in Stowe and Chartiers Avenue in McKees Rocks. Dependent on turn out, the crawls could become a monthly event.
“The credit here goes to the business owners who reached out to [MRCDC] to express their needs and issues. Those conversations led to us collectively creating this concept. Crawls like these have been enormously successful in a lot of communities, and we’re excited to see what it can bring here,” said Taris Vrcek, executive director MRCDC.
“I am hopeful that more residents along with business owners will come to us with their concerns and desires. When we can take our resources and apply them to a need expressed by the community, this is where success happens!”
In the coming weeks, members of MRCDC and others will be going door-to-door with invites and surveys gauging interest and asking for information about your business. If you’d like to be involved, please email sreis@mckeesrocks.com so that we can add you to the mailing list.

So far, the group has set a Friday, June 7th date for the initial Broadway Avenue crawl which will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Business owners from Broadway Avenue will host area artists and pop-up businesses from the Chartiers Avenue district during the event. Chartiers Avenue businesses will in turn host a September date.
