Run Your Rox Off 5K & 1 Mile Walk Returns Fall 2017

McKees Rocks Borough Secretary Tricia Levander is excited for the return of MRCDC’s highly anticipated Run Your Rox Off 5K and 1 Mile Walk event in Fall 2017.

Levander has ran in the Run Your Rox Off 5K race not once, but twice.

“It’s a good time,” she said. “It’s a challenging run—it’s pretty hilly and I enjoy it.”

Levander, who has been the borough’s secretary for the last five years, said she liked how there were a lot of familiar faces at the community race. She recommends to future runners: “Bring your friends along!”

Along with this local 5K race, Levander has ran the Erie Half Marathon and several Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh Races for the Cure. She said running is not only fun for her, but it’s also great for “weight loss through cardio exercise.”

Over 200 runners ran in the 2014 Run Your Rox Off 5K race, which was one of the region’s most challenging 5Ks with its steep terrain that humbled even the most seasoned runner. The unique course winded its way through the sky-high hills of our urban community, reveling in the district’s historic sites and iconic architecture.

And, while we are sad the 2016 Run Your Rox Off event has been canceled, we are excited to bring the Sto-Rox community together next year for a day of fun fitness.

We recognize that without good physical health, our Sto-Rox families cannot experience true well-being. That’s why in 2017; we will be offering a bigger and better Run Your Rox off event than ever before. MRCDC and partnering organizations will host a Health and Wellness Fair directly after the race. Runners and walkers can also look forward to a new course.

All proceeds from Run Your Rox Off support MRCDC projects that serve to strengthen our local community and its residents.

We would love to hear your feedback about next year’s RYRO. What are your thoughts about a new course, time of day and what would you like to see at the Health and Wellness Fair? Send comments to Heather at hfranz@mckeesrocks.com.
