McKees Rocks Historical Society

Vicki Batcha, historical society president, looks over all the prizes for the Chinese Auction at the Historical Society Christmas Party which was held on December 16. The invocation was given by Father Regis Ryan and entertainment was provided by ICTUS Community Choir. Prizes were donated by AAA, Angelia's Italian Grill, Carnegie Science Center, Crowne Plaza, Dave Deitz Florist, US Congressman Mike Doyle, Fairfield Inn and Suites, McKees Rocks Foodland, Senator Wayne Fontana, Giant Eagle Kennedy Twp, Jackson's Restaurant and Bar, Senator Nick Kotik, Marge's Place, McDermott Funeral Home, Pierogie's Plus, Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Primadonna Restaurant, McKees Rocks Rite Aid, Score's Sports Bar and Grill, Heinz History Museum, Six Flames Fire Grill. Needless to say, we had some great prizes and everyone who attended had a great time.

The McKees Rocks & Stowe Township Arcadia book will be available on June 15, 2009. The book can be pre-ordered for $21.99 if picked up at the Father Ryan Arts Center. A $4.00 shipping charge will be added if mailed. Checks should be made out to the McKees Rocks Historical Society.

A newsletter, produced by the Bridget Hamill, the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation Marketing Director, will be mailed to McKees Rocks residents this week.

A new book, Ukranians of Western Pennsylvania, will be released on May 4, 1909. It is written by Carnegie author Stephen P. Haluszczak, and published by Arcadia Publishing.

Workers Memorial Day, Tuesday, April 28, honors those killed and injured on the job, including the three policemen recently killed in Pittsburgh. A commemoration will be held downtown at Market Square at noon on the 28th. Donna Puleio will speak on the tragedy that occurred at the 1909 McKees Rocks Pressed Car Steel Strike and Mike Stout will sing "Blood on the Rocks".
